In El Paso, Texas, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) made repairs to Rosa Avenue during the hot summer months in 2018. TxDOT used 4,700 pallets of Rapid Set® Concrete Mix and Rapid Set® Mortar Mix to repair 180 miles of spalled, cracked concrete roadway for a total project size of 90,000 cu. ft.

The project began with contractor Synergy Construction removing the deteriorated sections measuring 6 feet long by 6 feet wide by 30 inches deep. After cleaning out the area and installing new rebar, the crew then applied the new concrete mix. The products, which met the state's specifications and requirements, were mixed on-site with two mixing machines. Once the materials were poured in place, they were broom finished and water cured.

With temperatures ranging as high as 95° to 109° degrees Fahrenheit, the extremely hot weather presented a major challenge. Crews kept plenty of ice water for the mix water to help extend working time and wet burlap sacks on-site for curing.
