Interstate 205 is an auxiliary interstate highway in the Portland metropolitan area of Oregon and Washington. It travels north–south along the east side of Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) contracted out repairs on I-205 to provide a smoother ride for travelers.

Contractor crews working for the WSDOT rehabilitated approximately 15 miles of pavement on I-205 in Vancouver, Wash. During construction, crews removed and replaced concrete panels along both directions of the highway. In an effort to reduce delays to travelers, the work was done at night, when traffic volumes are low.

The highway project size was approximately 600 cubic yards and used 200 tons of Rapid Set® Cement. Rapid Set was used because it is a fast-setting, high-performance cement that provides faster return to service, high strength and increased durability. It also qualifies as very-rapid-hardening per ASTM C1600 (Standard Specification for Rapid-Hardening Hydraulic Cement).

During the repairs, the concrete was mixed onsite in mobile mixers and a curing compound was used to help accelerate the cure. The specification required 3000 psi to open by 6 a.m. and 4000 psi at 28 days. A roller screed was used on the surface of the concrete to create a smooth and level surface.

Work on I-205 began in July 2019 and was completed in September 2019.
