GARDEN GROVE, Calif. — High-performance Rapid Set® Mortar Mix Plus (MMP) is a true multipurpose repair material. The specialty blend of Rapid Set® hydraulic cement, advanced additives, and quality aggregates is polymer-modified to strengthen adhesion and provide ample working time when using the fast-hardening material in vertical and overhead applications. In addition, MMP is durable in wet environments, making it especially suited for marine applications.
MMP is formulated with an air-entraining admixture for freeze-thaw durability and an integral corrosion inhibitor to increase protection of embedded reinforcement. It is non-metallic, with no chlorides added. It can be used for general and structural concrete repair, construction of pavements, underlayments, floors, formed concrete, and more.
In this project, a customer had a difficult time repairing a ramp wall due to it being an overhead patching application. Many had attempted the work with various products, but none could successfully complete it. The materials didn’t bond well or took too long to set. When MMP was used along with Rapid Set® WunderFixx® patching compound, the issue was fixed in a few hours in one lift.
In addition to high bond strength and durability, advantages include low shrinkage and fast strength gain. MMP sets quickly and reaches 2000 psi (13.8 MPa) in as little as 1½ hours and 3500 psi (24.1 MPa) in three hours. After 24 hours, it achieves a compressive strength of 5000 psi (34.5 MPa).
The high-quality repair material is specially formulated to match the color of typical portland cement concrete while providing twice the service life of portland cement-based products. MMP also reduces a project’s carbon footprint to lower environmental impact, as the production of Rapid Set® Cement used within MMP emits far less carbon dioxide than portland cement.
